A tour of Acre’s charming market followed by a cooking workshop at Erez’s kitchen in Matat is the perfect day out for fish & seafood lovers.
The tour begins at a meeting point in Acre’s old market. Erez takes participants though the market’s colorful alleyways, pass through the finest shops and stands and impart his tips on wise market shopping, how to identify various sea fish and how to choose the freshest fish of the day. The tour ends after Erez and participants pick the finest fish and seafood for the workshop ahead.
The next stop is on Erez’s balcony in Matat, overlooking a magnificent panorama to the upper galilee mountains, where a light antipasti meal awaits; freshly baked rustic bread, seasonal salads and refreshing wine.
The meal is followed by a tour of Erez’s organic farm, vegetable patches and herb garden as participants experience the outstanding flavours of seasonal vegetables eaten straight from the land and the appetizing aromas of freshly picked heirloom herbs.
The tour ends in the workshop studio where Erez will demonstrate the preparation of various dishes from the ingredients purchased at the market, while relieving some the angst associated with cooking fish at home and the ease with which it can be made.
Some of the dishes prepared in the workshop are sea-fish kebabs skewed on a sugar cane with roasted tomatoes sauce, calamari caramelized in Arak with peas from the garden, roasted little Tunny with sautéed kale, tea leaves smoked meagre fish served with citrus fruit and roasted peanuts, a grouper fish stew with Swiss chard and garlic confit & Iranian dried lemon. Dishes are subject to change depending on the inspiration, the season and the produce available in the market.
Participants will sample each pastry as it is made, alongside paired wines from the ‘Golan Heights Winery’.
The workshop will end on a sweet note under the pergola, where participants will enjoy dessert and hot drinks.
